Steinhardt Administration and Finance: A Hub of Support
The Administration and Finance (A&F) division at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development serves as the operational backbone, providing critical support to students, faculty, and staff. It encompasses a broad spectrum of functions, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the school’s academic, research, and administrative activities.
At the heart of A&F is financial management. This includes budget planning and execution, overseeing revenue streams (including tuition and grants), managing expenditures, and ensuring compliance with university-wide financial policies and external regulations. The team works closely with department chairs, center directors, and principal investigators to develop and monitor budgets, providing them with the resources necessary to achieve their goals. Grant management is a significant component, involving pre-award support (proposal development and submission) and post-award management (budget monitoring and compliance reporting) to facilitate research endeavors.
Beyond financial matters, A&F handles various administrative responsibilities. These include human resources functions such as hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations. They also oversee facilities management, ensuring that Steinhardt’s physical spaces are well-maintained, safe, and conducive to learning and working. This involves coordinating maintenance requests, managing space allocation, and overseeing renovations and construction projects. A&F plays a critical role in managing technology resources, working with NYU IT to ensure that students, faculty, and staff have access to the technology and support they need.
Student services also fall under the purview of A&F, albeit often in close collaboration with other Steinhardt offices. This includes supporting student financial aid, processing student accounts, and assisting with student-related administrative matters. They strive to create a supportive environment for students, addressing their needs and concerns in a timely and efficient manner.
Effective communication and collaboration are crucial to the success of Steinhardt’s A&F. The team works closely with other departments within Steinhardt and with central NYU administrative offices to ensure alignment and efficiency. They also strive to be transparent and responsive to the needs of the Steinhardt community, providing clear information and guidance on policies and procedures. Ultimately, the goal of Steinhardt Administration and Finance is to provide the necessary support and resources to enable Steinhardt to fulfill its mission of fostering innovative research, impactful teaching, and community engagement.
